Al-Ghattās

A diver plunges down a three story waterfall as part of an art installation at the Dubai Mall. The mall is the world's largest and is part of a 20 billion dollar downtown complex that includes the Burj Khalifa. If you are hungry, as I usually am because I eat like a Hobbit, you have about 120 restaurants and cafes from which to choose.

 The English word albatross (an oceanic diving bird) is a derivative of al-ghattās, Arabic for "the diver".

    Wow, fantastically surreal shot! I really love it from a basic photography standpoint too. The light, shadow, texture, contrasts, symmetry--all really pleasing. Great stuff!

    fascinating ... and yet one more piece of evidence that with the necessary spending money everything is possible ... even a three-story waterfall in the desert ...
    thanks for your tutoring lessons in arabic! i had no idea that so many words we use regularly owe their origin to that language !!!
