There not too many exposed fire hydrandts left over here Doug. The are all gradually being replaced by under ground units. After seeing the damage which results when a hydrant is hit be a car it is probably a good thing.
A wealth of great detail, from the curved shutter holders to the mossy side-walk; and a strong composition that uses the shadow of the doorway to create the pop of the hydrant.

it does look alien if combined with this type of architecture, i do like how it stands out though.. nice catch!
