Caw Caw

From the cool misty coasts of Maine to the hot humid climes of a Southern swampland, this weeks posts offer a variety of natural environments for you to enjoy.


Today's image shows swampy wetlands from a former rice plantation, which was converted in recent times to a wildlife refuge and nature education center. This park is called Caw Caw, just like the sound of wild crows.

    You're really making me want to explore South Carolina, Doug! And to think I could have done it all those 25 years I lived in Atlanta. (sigh) It was fun seeing the Peter Pan video. :)

    Wow, is this really South Carolina?
    So it's not just sea islands, huh? :o)

    It looks like a bayou in Louisiana to me.
    Well, I have never to the States.
    Saw similar pictures like this on National Geographic. :^)

    I'm off to France for a short summer break.

    Nice shot and cool greens. Always nice to hear of some place being converted for conservation and education. I was expecting a crow though :)

    now this is a sight i won't see on my walks with nelly ;-) wonderful spanish moss, great mood! (i think "my" feather is from a white heron, as there are not other white-feathered birds around at this time of the year! have a great weekend, too!)

    Beautiful! I love swamp lands like this. Maybe it's because I live in the desert, but this is so lush and the colors are so rich and gorgeous.

    I can almost feel the humidity--nice job filling the frame with the dense foliage and thereby taking us directly into the shot.
