Lighthouses don't fire cannons to call attention to their shining - they just shine." - Dwight L. Moody - Prospect Harbor Lighthouse stands near the Schoodic Peninsula Scenic Byway in Maine. It was established in 1850 and is still in use today, though it is operated automatically. The keeper's house is called Gull Cottage. It looks like a place I'd love to stay, even if only for a day. Our summer temperatures here in Charleston are over 100 degrees these days. Remembering the cool blue sea in this picture helps me feel less broiled. This is a place I would like to be right now! My daughter loves lighthouses, her dream being to live in one for good. So, 2 years ago I offered her a one week vacation in a lighthouse in Croatia, on an island. It was a great vacation for us all, as we all like solitutde.

ReplyDeletelighthouses and seascapes are my favourite genre and here we find a superb example of both. I like the use of the vertical format here which allowed your to set the rocks in foreground and so create a fine depth. Very good choice of the hour of the day, the warm light gave you lovely colours.
