From the Archives - The Blue Nun of Jasna Gora

Monastery of Jasna Gora, Poland  © Doug Hickok

The 14th century monastery of Jasna Gora shelters Poland's most sacred icon, the Black Madonna of Czestochowa. It also contains many arched passageways that create settings for nicely framed photographs. In this image, a blue clothed nun walked past just as I happened to press the camera shutter. I never saw her face, and to this day I wonder who she was. Where was she from? What kind of life did she live? And most importantly, I wonder who her favorite football club was?

  1. wonderful framing by the arch. fabulous light

  2. I like colors and atmosphere of this shot. Nice light too.

  3. Hey Doug, you really have a talent for capturing the essence or the main feature of a place. This shot says all! Very fine and interesting.

  4. J'aime bien la rime visuelle qui s'établit entre ce voile bleu qui passe au premier plan et la lumière bleue ombragée sous la voûte du passage au fond de l'image!
    Bonne journée lumineuse!

  5. Wonderful framing, perfect shot! bravo!

  6. sweet framing piece of work, lovely.
