The small town of Silverton began as a silver mining camp in the 1870's. But the past evolves into present and instead of mules and horses tied-up in front of these establishments, pickup trucks and SUVs park. Instead of communicating to the outside world via telegraph, there is satellite TV, and instead of mining for silver, they mine for tourists (the area is now a National Historic District). To add a bit of local color denizens dress-up in period costumes, playing their part of the Old West.

Wonderful contrasts Doug!
ReplyDeleteI love such small, traditional towns..
ReplyDeleteI wonder whether it looked so colorful in the past?
Probably not, but now looks charmingly.
Excellent picture, allowing us to feel like in the Wild West
Fantastic colours for the desert. We also have a town in outback NSW called Silverton founded on silver mining. It was used as a set for filming Mad Max. I visited once and was surprised to find wild camels roaming through the dust.
ReplyDeleteI wonder wheter it was also so colorful in the old times...

ReplyDeleteA wonderful mix of the historic and modern times. The colours of the buildings are very bold, the hills provide an interesting backdrop. Very well composed Doug.
ReplyDeleteI love these old houses, looking like in a Western moovie.
ReplyDeleteSparsely covered bluffs overlooking colourful wooden houses. Perfect, just how I imagined the (not so) Wild West to be.

ReplyDeleteWonderful painted houses: they offer a great combination of colors with the green hills and the blue sky. Nicely done!
