    What a great idea to focus in on these lines and the textures. Makes a great abstract.

    Your lines about roads taking you places has made me think of of an old British radio comedy series, The Goon Show, where in an episode, someone asks for instructions on getting to a place, and the answer given is, "You can't get there from here"!
