Espresso and Hot Dog Stand, Portland, Oregon © Doug Hickok Seeing this colorful but curious Espresso and Hot Dog stand in Portland got me thinking about coffee (but not with popcorn, eek !), which is a favorite topic of mine, which then got me wondering, where in the world did I have my favorite cup of coffee? I'd have to answer that it was in Venice, at the Caffe' del Doge near the Realto. It may have been because we were in La Serenissima after all, or because it was late, and we were exhausted from walking all day, and cold, and thirsty. Or, it may have been because it was simply the most delicious cup of heaven I ever tasted. Ooh la la! Either way, it was fantastic! So, this got me wondering, where in the world did you have your favorite cup of coffee? |

red gold and green, is it rasta espresso?
ReplyDeleteNo doubt...very colorful!
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I know is that I need a strong espresso or I will fall asleep in front of my computer ! :-0
Haha. I don't drink coffee. Mr. Brattcat would probably say New Orleans. I think the coffee tasted divine to you in Venice because Venice is divine and anything consumed there tastes heavenly. I bet the cafe in Venice didn't look like this place. But what a great shot.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite coffee was had at a little bistro called 1991 Vestry. Made by my favorite barrister and proprietor. Papa C. Bear. Second place is the cafe we ate at one of our last nights in Krakow on Market Square. They had really good espresso. : )
ReplyDeleteA colorful picture indeed!
ReplyDeleteI am a sailor and I had my favorite coffee at a small street café in Sydney where I got a perfect, creamy cappuccino after three weeks at sea with nothing but instant coffee.
good question indeed, but not so difficult to answer - in my local café in my hometown (baden, austria)! if you ever come this way, it's called "café vock", and it also serves delicious pastry.
ReplyDeleteAbout the photo: with all those colours it's difficult to resist clicking the shutter! (:-)
ReplyDeleteAbout coffee, well we in Italy know how to do it!

My kitchen. I make a MEAN cup of java.
ReplyDeleteWell Doug - an interesting question. I never had coffee until I visited Denmark in 1967 (yeah I'm that old!) and a slight language complication meant I was given GOOD percolated coffee...I didn't want to rude, so...I drank it - and loved it. Never been better!
ReplyDeleteLove too the vibrant colours and the selective framing.
Excellent post and shot! My wife and I had coffee at a cafe near the Rialto on our honeymoon but I can't remember the name. I think every cup of coffee we had in Italy was otherworldly but if I had to pick a particular cup it would be the one we had at our first real stop on the same trip. We arrived in Sorrento just in time for Carnevale and as we sat down for a delicious cup at an idyllic cafe, children dressed in all manner of adorable costumes began flooding into the piazza to celebrate. Not sure if it was the moment or the brew but few cups of coffee have matched that one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for bringing it back to mind!
