America's Landmark Preservation Movement

The aptly named Rainbow Row was where Charleston's preservation
 movement began. A group of concerned citizens rescued
 a row of dilapidated houses here in the early 20th century,
 initiating a restoration project that eventually
 transformed the entire town.
