Becky and I spent the holidays back home in Ohio with family. We awoke one morning to a fresh snow fall, so I could not resist the temptation to leave the house early and shoot.
"The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I had promises to keep..." promises to eat the sour cream doughnuts that awaited me back in the warmth of the house.

Ah that is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ciel! I had fun photographing in the snow, for the first time in years :^) We don't get much of it down in Charleston.
DeleteA visual and a tasty treat Doug. Life is complete. J.
ReplyDeleteThanks Joe... the reward from tromping around in the snow most of the morning was some tasty doughnuts and hot coffee... yum :^)
DeleteWhat a magnificient sight!
ReplyDeleteHi Lili! It sure was a pretty snow, very soft and downy, and outlined every surface with fresh white, like a painting!
DeleteLubię patrzeć na taki świeży śnieg i pokazujące się promienie słońca. Pozdrawiam.
ReplyDeleteI like to look at the fresh snow and the sun showing. Yours.
Hi Giga - Yes, I was lucky to catch some of the sunrise light through the trees, which makes it look a tiny bit warmer, but not really :^)
Deletethat feels cold
ReplyDeleteYou are right yz, it was cold! The day we left Ohio, it was 15 degrees. Ouch! Today in Charleston it was 70!
Deletethis is a wonderful "wooden" image, doug, with very appealing colours. i like the contrast bw the dark trunks and the snow on the one hand, and bw wood and sky on the other. how did you manage to get the colour of the sky across so well ?!?
ReplyDeleteHi Franz - I happened to take the photo toward the east, just as the color of the morning sky turned warm from a muted sunrise! Also, just at that moment, angels started singing, trumpets started sounding, and confetti fell from the sky :^)
Deletei like how the snow accentuates the look on these trees, nicely shot. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Rian - yes, the fluffy snow was like cotton candy on the tree trunks... made me hungry to look at it :^)
DeleteLe soleil se lève à l'horizon pour faire fondre la neige, il ne restera que la photo pour témoigner du passage de l'hiver.
ReplyDeleteVery true... in fact the next day the sun warmed-up a bit, and the snow started melting! The fresh snow sure didn't last very long :^(
DeleteBeautiful, tranquil landscape shot! Love the light of the winter sun that shines through the snow-covered trees.
ReplyDeleteMe too Arnd! The early morning light made a nice warm/cold color contrast for this winter scene :^)
DeleteBeautiful image, Doug, and a departure from your mostly-Southern warm weather shots. Hey, I grew up in northeast Ohio; where's Harrison?
ReplyDeleteHi Scott - Harrison is in the very southwestern corner of Ohio, near the border with Indiana. I did not know you are from Ohio :^)
DeleteLike a winter wonderland, D!
ReplyDeleteDid you see the Gruffalo?
It's a half-yak half orangutan big foot.
Well LC, I looked really really hard and long for that Gruffalo, but had no luck. Yet, on the bright side, I did see a Madagascan Burrowing Cow rooting around in the woods :^) In Ohio! That was a real surprise!
Deletefine vertical lines
ReplyDeleteThank you John! My eyes were attracted to them, but I also liked the diagonal line of the hillside intersecting the verticals too, to add a touch of tension.
DeleteI like landscapes featuring fresh snow! You have a good composition here, Doug.
ReplyDeleteHope the doughnuts have been good:)
All credit due to the master for leaving his warm bed for his art. But it was worth it for the fresh whiteness and early dawn light through the trees. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteKudos to your photographic commitment especially considering the goodness that awaited you. It was the right call though--the light in this wintry shot is awesome!
ReplyDeleteExcellent composition: the snow makes the trees more beautiful. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day.
