Go West XX - Doughnut Hole

Clouds Above the Alpine Tundra, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

If you read science or science fiction, you are probably familiar with black holes (which swallow-up everything near it) and wormholes (which transport you to other places and times). While ambling aimlessly on the alpine tundra one day, some 12,000 feet above sea level, I happened to spot this cloud formation that reminded me of a doughnut hole.

Just at that moment, I was mentally transported to a brightly colored doughnut shop where I swallowed-up half a dozen freshly baked doughnuts! It was delicious! It was delightful! I was delirious!

When I snapped-out of my daydream, I thought to myself sadly, "Oh, if only my dream was true! But, alas, there are no doughnut shops on the tundra."

  2. I'm often surprised by your photos. I doubt whether I would have seen this segment of your vision with so much ske and a touch of terra firma. Must look harder next time.

  4. Hi Doug! So nice to hear from you again. Thanks for your comment on Paree. This photo I enjoyed very much as we love Colorado and our daughter lives at 9,000 feet in the southwestern part of the state. In fact, we have a whole blog dedicated to Colorado - Colorado in Color. But this would be a great capture anywhere. Best wishes!

  9. Creative composition - good eye to see and shoot this excellent blue sky. The touch of rocks "grounds" it.

  11. Ha ha... Your imagination is wilder than mine!
Yeah, definitely a huge glazed doughnut in the sky.
I can also see a smiling face and an elephant, hmmmm maybe it's a yak.
Ha ha... I see many other things too.
This is not the inkblot test, right?

  17. My kind of cloud formation--mmmm, donuts! Great composition here Doug; including only a small amount of the rock formation makes it seem almost a solid cloud.
