La Serenissima

View from the Canale Della Giudecca toward the Fondamenta Zattere
and the Bell Tower of Santa Maria dei Carmini, Venice, Italy  © Doug Hickok

The "Most Serene Republic" looks just that, serene, on a bright gem-like winter day. Perhaps Venice has seen more prosperous days, but in vivid light and glowing color, it is still a city of incomparable beauty.

  5. one of my eternal love affairs - venice! only about 6 hours by car from where i live, or two and a half from where we go skiing every year (the italian dolomites). it is such a wonderfully unique place that not even las vegas could do damage to it ... ;-))
i love your view across the giudecca canal! the district to the north, dorsoduro, is one of my favourites in the city! just looking at your picture and writing these words here makes me long for another visit to la serenissima ... (perhaps in february ...)
