An Original Olympian

To honor the ancient origins of the Olympic Games, a stylized sculpture of a Greek Olympian was created for Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park.

His arm shadow falls on one of the quilt motifs which recur throughout
Centennial Park. The quilt was used as a symbol of harmony and union during the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. During the opening ceremonies the participating nations gathered in "patches" to form a large quilt.

  3. Cleverly composed to tell the story, but also to create a rather unusual and slightly surreal image. I also like the simple palette of greens and blues. Cunning vision!

  5. Quilts must be very American.
I saw a lot of them at the American Museum in Britain, in Somerset.
Strangely, no Coca Cola, McDonald's or Starbucks in the museum. ;o)

  11. this is art in more sense than one! a unique and very appealing monument, and a first rate photo! that you saw and captured the shadow of the arm the way it is speaks for itself. i wonder how long you had to wait for to be exactly so ...

  12. GReat eye to catch this scene: you play cleverly with the shadow of its arm to create an impossible movement!
    Have a nice day.
