Let Sleeping Lions Lie

Green Lion and Gate, Charleston, SC  © Doug Hickok  All Rights Reserved

Wise words to live by.

Lions are known to sleep a lot...
they need rest from their vigorous hunting activities.
They are also known to sleep in front of homes and public buildings...
 they make intimidating guardians.
But lions are best known for their fierce temper...
So it is best to let sleeping lions lie,
even if they are only made of stone.

  2. There is no doubt that the subject is fabulous but you do have the ability to make it magical both in the image and also your "quirky" text. Keep 'em coming Doug. Bravo!

  4. Guarding gates appears to be very boring work, Doug. Love the colour contrast in this shot.

  6. I wander: could they still guard if they are sleeping?! I like this composition, Doug! Also the iron work of the gate behind.

Chinese used guarding lions in front of their doors as a symbol of status.

  8. Beautiful picture (and for me, it's the first sleeping stone lion, too!)
In Germany we have the expression of sleeping dogs that must not be disturbed ;)
