Room for Copy

Blue Shutter and Shadow, Charleston, SC  © Doug Hickok

Often times, a good stock image allows plenty of room for copywriting. For example, in this photo I left enough space in the upper right third of the frame for whatever a copywriter might want to say about Charleston and its unique charms.

But, I would probably write something silly and random,
in the mode of a Shakespearian quote, such as...
"There is either liquor in his pate
or money in his purse when he looks so merrily."

  2. Whatever the copywriter had to say I doubt it would add much to your already-eloquent image.

It seems to be a simple picture, but it's excellent combination of all these elements. Bravo!

  10. I love the bright colors and interesting shapes and textures, but I grin as I think of a copywriter saying "Come to Charleston and admire our peeling paint..."

  11. beautiful image, enticing quote, inspired idea to leave background for copy, but i'm guessing the folks who are going to use this image might take a more prosaic approach.

  13. ...and yet another semi-abstract master-piece. Gotta say Doug that your 'blue period' is definitely a sight for sore eyes and a triumph. Well done.

And a slightly early wish for a happy Easter to the Hickok family.

  18. Fascinating--I love the glimpse into the things you have to think about when you're shooting stock. I never occurred to me that you would have to consider room for copywriting. I love this simple, effective composition and the gorgeous light.
