Porter's Lodge, College of Charleston, SC © Doug Hickok
The scene shown here is a view through Porter's Lodge toward Randolph Hall, on the campus of the College of Charleston, the oldest municipal college in the U.S. (est. 1770). The setting for an early part of the movie The Patriot was filmed at this location. Parts or entire movies have been filmed in Charleston over the years. Here is a short list... Cold Mountain, White Squall, The Prince of Tides, The Notebook, The Lords of Discipline, The Legend of Bagger Vance, The Great Santini, The Dangerous Lives of Alter Boys, Rich in Love, Die Hard with a Vengeance, and Dear John, as well as the TV mini series North and South, Love and War, and yes, you guessed it, no surprise here, Scarlett, the sequel to Gone with the Wind.
Hope this post puts you in the mood to watch a good movie this weekend.

A very rich in color photo!
ReplyDeleteWe're always in the mood to watch a good movie, Doug. To be honest, I've seen GWTW only once, eons ago. That would be a good one to find here in Holland.
ReplyDeleteGotta love the mood of this archway!
Yeah it does, but what 'good' movies are available these days?!
ReplyDeleteDuncan In Kuantan
Excellent photo!
ReplyDeleteWonderful framing and warm colors Doug.
ReplyDeleteSuch a warm inviting image, I loved the Patriot.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot, Terrific balance of light. Love it. Have a nice weekend Doug.
ReplyDeleteSo many frames within a frame here with the archway, trees and architecture providing the layers like cuurtains to each section. Love the shadow play created by the light also and the composition works wonderfully well.
ReplyDeleteA really excellent frame that is choc filled with interest Doug.
Perfect framing. Not sure about which movie to enjoy this weekend.
ReplyDeleteIf more (film) directors looked at your blog and your beautiful portrayal of Charleston, then I can only say Doug, that the list would be even longer.
ReplyDeleteA great combination of light and framing...and have a nice weekend.
I like the shadows in this shot. Pretty cool!
ReplyDeleteNice picture and lovely light!
ReplyDeleteLove the point of view: we really enter in the picture by the door. really clever.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day.
What a nice framing! Also the splash of green in the middle looks great.
ReplyDeleteyou'd expect the grey-uniformed confederation soldiers escorting their crinollined ladies across the courtyard ... wonderfully atmospheric! no wonder they choose charleston as a venue for shooting their films ... ;-))
ReplyDeleteNice! It's easy to see from all your shots why this Charleston is a favorite place for Hollywood to find things un-Hollywood. Beautiful light, color and excellent framing here Doug--great shot!
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning. Beautiful
