Misty Monday - Purple Overpass

Dawn, James Island Connector, Charleston, SC  © Doug Hickok

The James Island Connector is a bridge that links Charleston with one of the neighboring sea islands. This image was made on slide film a few years back, at a time when I was push processing chromes one stop for added punch. Photo buyers in Charleston seem to like my images for their strong hues, so I often strive for that pop of color. A draw back of push processing is added grain in the image, as you can see in this misty twilight scene along the Ashley River.

More importantly...
Happy 21st Birthday Adam Cade Gabriel ! !

  11. Interesting look with the punchy colors. Sometimes I feel we spend too much time worrying about noise (grainyness) in our pics. I think it adds a bit of character.

  13. There is such a sense of the artistic eye in this most painterly of frames, Doug. I can see this as a large canvas on the wall, hues that pop, detai;s that capture the essence of that structure. It's such a visually strong and dynamic image.

  20. Does a little grain really matter? It's a phenomena that's been used to great effect since the early days of photography. And it works beautifully here..

  26. intriguing technical details here, and a very pleasing result! i'd say the vivid colors easily offset the grainy structure! in fact, the grain adds to the charm of this very pink image! and i like the pov very much, as if you had been looking out of a window!
