Light for Light's Sake

Early Morning, Art Gallery Door, Chalmers Street, Charleston, SC  © Doug Hickok

When I'm roaming around downtown Charleston in the early morning, there are many times I simply follow the light. By that I mean, I pick an area of the city to photograph, and wherever the golden light falls, that's where I shoot. In many instances, I'm just photographing the light for the sake of it's pure beauty. And that's because, the beauty of light can transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Here's wishing you a weekend filled with extraordinary light.

  2. Perfectly stated and presented, Doug. Sometimes light alone and for its own sake is all that matters! You have a great weekend, too.

  9. Beautiful sunlight and this fragment in this light, reminds me of a small Italian towns.. This colors, this light.......But only those windows that open otherwise, that is, from bottom to top. In Europe are rare. I like also the old style of surface street, cobblestones it's also rare but looks great.

  14. Hi Doug. Thanx for your visit and comment. We've been out-of-town but hope to be back to regular blogging soon.

It's always about the light. This is indeed golden, and somewhat muted, giving the building/door a pastel glow...very nice!

  18. If it wasn't titled otherwise, I'd have thought this was shot in the South of France. It has the same ambience, helped by the light that the photographic early bird caught. Have a nice weekend Doug.
