Prospect Harbor Lighthouse, Schoodic Peninsula, Maine © Doug Hickok "We are told to let our light shine, and if it does, we won't need to tell anybody it does. Lighthouses don't fire cannons to call attention to their shining - they just shine." - Dwight L. Moody - Prospect Harbor Lighthouse stands near the Schoodic Peninsula Scenic Byway in Maine. It was established in 1850 and is still in use today, though it is operated automatically. The keeper's house is called Gull Cottage. It looks like a place I'd love to stay, even if only for a day. Our summer temperatures here in Charleston are over 100 degrees these days. Remembering the cool blue sea in this picture helps me feel less broiled. Quick take: Speaking of beautiful settings by the sea, here is a link to images of Italy's top beaches. You will simply love this one! |
This post is filled with goodness! Fantastic shot full of rich colors, thoughtful quote, cool background information and an beautiful Italian Beach. Gotta be a record!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I want to be a lamplighter and live in this place.
This is a place I would like to be right now! My daughter loves lighthouses, her dream being to live in one for good. So, 2 years ago I offered her a one week vacation in a lighthouse in Croatia, on an island. It was a great vacation for us all, as we all like solitutde.
ReplyDeleteYour place her is an awesome one, so peaceful and inviting. The angle you choosed has a great effect!
The lighthouse is beautiful and waters, so serene.
ReplyDeleteA magnificent landscape where we want to settle down to live in front of the sea. I like very much the color of the leading rocks
ReplyDeleteI knew that lighthouse from a book I have, but your picture is much better.
ReplyDeleteSo the only decent beaches in Tuscany are the absurdely expensive Forte dei Marmi or the faraway Maremma? Let's them believe so...
Hello Doug
ReplyDeleteThats a beautiful place, composition and colors are wonderful....great picture.
greetings, Joop
But a sailor seeks, with desperation, the sight of the light from a warning beacon. What a shot this is...makes me homesick for Maine.
ReplyDeleteThat blue is hard to find........ Breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteOh that is just yummy! Super photo! It's hot here, too, and this helps cool me down.
ReplyDeleteI dunno why, but everytime I see your name I want to yell, "Hey, Wild Bill!" Silly, I know.
Wonderful landscape, beautiful photo!
ReplyDeleteThe sea is so blue like nothing else in the world :)
Really classic shot. I like this one. Nice placement on the lighthouse.
ReplyDeleteNot so silly, Jacob.
ReplyDeleteWild Bill is my great, great, great... uncle, or something like that.
My wife says I have the same nose!
Beautiful photo and place. We've got you beat in the temperatures, not that it's a contest I'd want to win, we're going to hit 108 tomorrow. Yuck.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blues and oranges. The large amount of rock in the foreground makes the shot as much about nature as man's building.
ReplyDeletebeautiful water scene, quite lovely. really like the blues and oranges together. it's almost like the rocks have rusted.
ReplyDeletethis photo is brilliant!
ReplyDeleteI love lighthouses and this reminds me very much one of my favorites Brant Point Light in Nantucket, right?
I love those bright blue tones :D
ReplyDeletei'd love to live there too.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot, very good lights and colours!
ReplyDeleteI like very much lighthouses, they are very special places.
Greetings from Spain
Stunning photograph! I love this beautiful place, these texture of coastal stones and clean sky-blue colour of sea water.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo and composition. Love the colours and like seeing the sunshine given we are in winter in this part of the world. Rae, Perth Western Australia
ReplyDeleteThis photo is just ideal. You don't just want to visit this place, but live in that house :)
ReplyDeleteBreathtaking. Beautiful !!
ReplyDeleteI just love Dwight L. Moodys quote. How true.
ReplyDeleteHigh Dough,
ReplyDeletelighthouses and seascapes are my favourite genre and here we find a superb example of both. I like the use of the vertical format here which allowed your to set the rocks in foreground and so create a fine depth. Very good choice of the hour of the day, the warm light gave you lovely colours.
Much in my taste,
Cheers,
Donato
Dream house, but real?
ReplyDeleteA scene of utter tranquillity...a month there would be heaven.
