Assorted Rocks, Hunter's Beach, Acadia National Park, Maine © Doug Hickok Sometimes one of the thrills of life is finding little treasures, like this assortment of multicolored rocks on a beach in Maine. For a person who relishes rocks and their rockiness, like me, this is striking it rich! Wishing you a weekend full of little treasures. Thought I'd start something new also. Calling it Favorite Photographers Friday, I'll post a link to photographers whom I admire or who have influenced my work to a certain degree over time. Today's favorite is Eliot Porter, one of the first to photograph landscapes in color. |
Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLove it!
We're on the same page, Doug, when it comes to such treasures. In fact, I am known to pick up a rare specimen from time to time that catches my eye and take it home for my collection. Vancouver Island was a jackpot, as I recall!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of your FPF. I bet I'll be getting my education every week!
What a wonderful array of tones.
ReplyDeleteWhat colorful stones! That big one is not so "little" treasure :)
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend!
interesting abstract, perfect result
ReplyDeleteBeautiful composition and tones.
ReplyDeleteWow, great photo! I like to photograph pebbles too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link to Porter. His bird shots were pretty amazing too. What patience. How many of us today would still be photographers (or wannabes) if we were working with film?
ReplyDeleteThe mixture of colors of these delicious small pebbles is magnificent. I like all these tones and the soft curvatures of these stones
ReplyDeleteAnother minimalist masterpeice, I simply can't 'see' these things... and I try often!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful find. Love all the different colours and contours of the stones. A lovely capture. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and so different texture, I love this composition!
ReplyDeleteLéia
beautiful frame and texture .
ReplyDeleteLike you, Doug, I love pebbly-beaches, especially as I studied rocks at Uni! lol There's something about their textures and colours that fascinate.
ReplyDeleteA fine collection of beach stones. On one Oregon beach among all of these is an occasional agate that can be polished to semi-gem quality...makes the search more intensive! :-) Nice post.
ReplyDeleteOld Ansel gets so much PR that Eliot seems to have been pushed aside; but it's good to see his work and read about his pioneering work. Thanks for that Doug.
ReplyDeleteAnd a great range of colour and texture in the pebbles...
And you too have a good weekend.
I love the colors and the composition. All this minimalist simplicity is stunning.
ReplyDeleteso you've found your way to maine, too! ;-))
ReplyDeleteevery photographer does eventually - as your link to eliot porter (who i admit i'd never heard of!) demonstrates as well!

ReplyDeleteMaine? I'd like to visit New England one day.

I visited Porter's website and saw "Lichens on River Stones".
I see, that's your "influence".

Great treasures indeed--I love the link to influential photographers as well. Great idea!
